We seem powerless, as citizens, to distinguish between reality and the pro-austerity, anti-human paranoia that permeates our culture. With stress increasing in our daily lives and the helplessness/hopelessness of trickle-down economics, many of us just can't think straight. To be sure, the wealthy elites who seek to continue in control want it this way. Gridlock is their briar patch; polarization their nirvana.
We humans make choices all the time. The question is whether they are informed by the intellect or just by our gut instincts. Gut instincts are powerful and important to understand, but there is a point at which we become lemmings, sheeple, herded ever so easily by our wealthy and powerful overlords. Kansas, today, and other States, seem so stressed and deranged by the damage done by the nation's wealthy elites and multinationals that a bolt of lightning or a well-placed code word may lead them to jump right off a cliff.
