UBS may have Facebook trading loss of $350 million - Market Day

UBS may have Facebook trading loss of $350 million - Market Day '..  That loss is more than 10 times the $30 million that is currently being speculated in the market. The issue has to do with the failure to get confirmations and executions from the Facebook trade.
Sources said UBS wanted 1 million shares, but when it did not receive confirmations, it repeated the order multiple times and was left with much more than it intended.
"Given the size of our U.S. equity business and our role as a major market maker, UBS was affected by these issues, as we believe other market participants may have been," UBS said in a written statement. "Consistent with our policy on market comments on our positions or intra-quarter performance, we are not disclosing the amount of the loss, which is not material to UBS. We are continuing to consider avenues to recover our losses in this matter, but have not yet taken legal action."

Noda's decision to restart the two reactors, expected to be confirmed at a meeting with key ministers, will ease worries about power shortages among firms in the region, including struggling electronics giants Panasonic Corp and Sharp Corp.
But the move, seen by many as a first step to bringing more reactors on line even before a new nuclear regulator is in place, could undermine Noda's already sagging support among voters still worried about safety.

Bernanke, Fed have few options as economy slows - Economy Watch

Bernanke, Fed have few options as economy slows - Economy Watch ;..  Another less aggressive bond-buying program, dubbed Operation Twist, is due to end this month although the Fed could extend or modify it.
So-called Fed “hawks,” like Fisher, worry about the potential for sparking inflation down the road if the Fed continues its highly aggressive easy-money policy.
Tony Crescenzi, a longtime Fed watcher and portfolio manager for bond giant Pimco, says Bernanke and fellow policymakers are likely to keep using the central bank’s “bully pulpit”  to signal their willingness to act if needed, despite the obstacles.
“I think as long as they convey that idea, that they will do more and that they are activists, whether or not they act it won’t be immediately consequential to markets,” he said.
One factor working in the favor of so-called “doves” like Evans, is that inflation does not seem to be a major threat right now, especially with oil prices tumbling.

Chairman Bernanke says Fed is ready to act - Economy Watch

Chairman Bernanke says Fed is ready to act - Economy Watch ;..  "The Federal Reserve remains prepared to take action as needed to protect the economy in the event that financial stresses escalate," Bernanke said.
Bernanke was testifying as eurozone officials worked on a plan to rescue banks in Spain, Europe's fourth-largest economy. If officials don't act soon and with conviction, theeurozone debt crisis threatens to plunge Europe into recession and perhaps bring the global economy down with it.
China's economy has already slowed and its banking officials cut benchmark interest rates by 25 basis points Thursday in an attempt to stimulate domestic demand in the world's No. 2 economy

Ancient statue depicting prince who became Buddha unearthed

Ancient statue depicting prince who became Buddha unearthed ;..  "A cult tied to a cycle of festivals celebrating four moments, not in the biography of the Buddha but in the pre-enlightenment period of the life of Siddhartha."
One section of the code authorizes carrying the image of Siddhartha (referred to as a Bodhisattva) on a wagon.
Whether or not the newly discovered stele went on a wagon ride, Fussman said the depiction of Gautama Siddhartha Sakyamuni before he became a Buddha provides further evidence of the existence of this cult. "Here also you have an instance of it," he said in the interview, "the Buddha before he became a Buddha."
Excavations continue at the Mes Aynak site as scientists explore the complex in an effort to save the artifacts before the area is disturbed by copper mining.
