GameStop won't stop - Fortune Tech

GameStop won't stop - Fortune Tech ;.. THE GREATEST loss is in holding onto something that is out of date, REALLY ! ...In order to survive, it has shifted its focus.
A brick-and-mortar retailer with over 6,600 stores, GameStop is forced to incur costs that online competitors, such as Amazon (AMZN), don't. That hurts its margins and makes it difficult for the company to compete on price. To make matters worse, GameStop, which has historically sold physical game media and consoles, is being presented with another major challenge: the rise of digital gaming.

'Digital pill' with chip inside gets FDA green light - Aug. 3, 2012

'Digital pill' with chip inside gets FDA green light - Aug. 3, 2012 ; ...SUPER PILL, Placebo chip with sensor !...The chip works by being imbedded into a pill. Ingest it at the same time that you take your medication and it will go to work inside you, recording the time you took your dose. It transmits that information through your skin to a stick-on patch, which in turn sends the data to a mobile phone application and any other devices you authorize.
The system's goal is to overcome our forgetful impulses, says Andrew Thompson, the CEO and cofounder of Proteus.
"People live busy and complex lives, and as a result often don't take their medicines correctly," Thompson says. "We wanted to develop a solution that would help make existing medicines more effective in real life."
The European Union approved Proteus' system device in 2010, according to the company. The Redwood City, Calif., company plans to bring its first product, called "Helius," to market later this year in the U.K. in partnership with the Lloydspharmacy chain.
Helius includes Proteus' mobile health app, a supply of its stick-on patches (they last seven days, then need replacing) and a stash of its sensor-equipped placebo chips. The company declined to comment on the system's planned price tag.

Greeks invited to share corruption tales for tell-all book - MSN Malaysia News | Top Stories, Breaking Headlines, Photos and Videos

Greeks invited to share corruption tales for tell-all book - MSN Malaysia News | Top Stories, Breaking Headlines, Photos and Videos ;..  One of the stories was from a self-styled EU employee, who was shocked to hear that she could skip the massive queue at her local tax office by giving 20-30 euros ($25-37) to the owner of the local coffee-shop.
Another user complained about the bribe he was told to pay at a public hospital for his wife to give birth.
Data released by a public administration inspector this week said corruption was still rife at tax agencies, hospitals and building permit and social security offices.
Pangalos sparked an outcry in 2010, at the start of Greece's economic crisis, by blaming the collapse on the armies of civil service staff appointed by his socialist party and the rival conservatives in return for votes.

Film on 1969 Malaysia riots courts controversy - Latest news around the world and developments close to home - MSN Malaysia News

Film on 1969 Malaysia riots courts controversy - Latest news around the world and developments close to home - MSN Malaysia News ;.. The official government view is that communists incited racial tensions, which the Chinese-dominated Democratic Action Party (DAP) further inflamed with a victory march through the capital Kuala Lumpur after May 10 polls.
Opponents of that interpretation, however, say a Malay elite led by then- deputy premier Abdul Razak Hussein orchestrated the unrest as a pretext to cement Malay control. Abdul Razak became prime minister in the aftermath.
A person involved in making the film told AFP it was "government propaganda" and includes beheadings by communists played by ethnic Chinese actors, and Chinese shouting "all Malays go and die."
"It only shows one side of what happened," the source said on condition of anonymity.
Half of the movie's RM4.5 million ($1.5 million) budget was supplied by the government-run National Film Development Corporation (Finas).
Malaysia is bracing for tough elections that Prime Minister Najib Razak -- Abdul Razak's son -- must call next year amid bitter divisions between the Malay ruling party and an opposition seeking to capitalise on growing public calls for change.
Abdul Razak is a key figure in the film, fueling online accusations it was meant to boost Najib ahead of the polls by glorifying his bloodline.

Breaking News and Opinion on The Huffington Post

Breaking News and Opinion on The Huffington Post ;..  Our nation's federal budget should reflect our nation's priorities. This includes simultaneously addressing short-term national crisis, making longer-term investments in our nation's future that we need to prosper, and living within our means and not leaving the next generation with a burdensome debt. It is a tough balancing act that should reflect the American people's values, including a commitment to ensure the next generation has to opportunity to achieve their full God-given potential.
As Rep. Rosa DeLauro said at the Children's Budget Summit earlier this month:
Every parent sees endless possibilities and great hope in the eyes of a child. As a nation, when we look at today's children, we see tomorrow's leaders -- scientists, teachers, doctors and diplomats. But for our children to thrive and America to stay competitive in the 21st-century global economy, we must support their development, their families and the public policies that work for both.
Unfortunately, many federal policymakers are simply not making children a priority. According to Children's Budget 2012, the federal government now allocates less than eight percent of its budget to our nation's children, who represent one-quarter of our population but all of our future.
Whether acting to slash billions of dollars out of child nutrition, allowing hundreds of millions of dollars through Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) to expire that was dedicated to the poorest children in the poorest states, taking actions to declare pizza to be a vegetable in school lunches, or passing legislation to prohibit the Department of Labor from taking action to protect child laborers from injuries and deaths in agricultural settings, Congress is clearly choosing not to make children a priority.
In fact, Congress has chosen to disproportionately cut investments in children, as discretionary spending on children has declined by about $2 billion since 2010. Some might think this is due to the fact that all federal spending is being reduced to combat the federal deficit, but the fact is that children have borne a disproportionate share of the reduction. In fact, the share of federal spending going to kids fell six percent in the past year compared to all the other areas within the federal budget.

Breaking News and Opinion on The Huffington Post

Breaking News and Opinion on The Huffington Post;..This project was done entrepreneurially, without taxes or grants. It must survive strictly by competing with a good (better) product for our citizens. Today, we have the fastest, most affordable Internet speeds in America. We can deliver a true, symmetrical gigabit for less than $1000! We also provide a free symmetrical 100mbs for Intranet to any subscriber to our service. This is local government owned and managed, but paid for only by the people that subscribe to the service. We are providing much higher speeds for much less money than is otherwise available. This will mean opportunities for companies to use Lafayette as a laboratory for what the next generation internet will do for the world. It will help provide good, clean, high-paying jobs for our citizens.

Gun rights: A Stinger for Antonin | The Economist

Gun rights: A Stinger for Antonin | The Economist ;..  READ YOUR RIGHTS,  gun rights: the right to defend yourself against the government.
There are basically two ways of explaining why a right to own guns belongs in the Bill of Rights. The first is that it's part of the assumed natural right to self-defence against other citizens. The second, increasingly the main line of argument by gun-rights advocates, is that's it's necessary to prevent governments from arrogating tyrannical powers to themselves. Hence the ready response of a pro-gun-rights New York Times reader to an editorial calling for a compromise on gun control:
The Second Amendment was not written to protect hunters and recreational shooters. It was written as a safeguard against a government that might become so centralized and so powerful that it would pose a threat to the freedom of the citizenry and the Republic.
The same premise undergirds the gun-rights philosophy of the NRA ("America's First Freedom"), the Second Amendment Foundation ("the intent of [the second amendment] was to protect individuals from government powers"), and other gun-rights organisations.

Don't Believe In The Central Banking Theater Of The Absurd - Business Insider

Don't Believe In The Central Banking Theater Of The Absurd - Business Insider ;  THE ABSURDITY .. ABSURDITY OR REALITY ;....Their job, such as it is, is to deflate a tottering system based on phantom assets slowly enough that it doesn't implode. Stripped of mumbo-jumbo, their strategy to accomplish this is to inflate other phantom assets to replace the phantom assets that are falling to zero.
All their promises, preening and posturing boil down to patting their breast pocketand speaking vaguely about a "secret plan" to end the crisis without bringing down the system that spawned the crisis as a consequence of its very nature.
There is no secret plan, of course, and no secret financial weapons; all they really have is artifice and the hubris to present artifice as reality.
To admit the usustainable is not sustainable would bring the entire rotten edifice crashing down, so the central bankers invite us into their little Theater of the Absurd and evince a phantom confidence in their phantom solutions that depend on phantom assets.
A swollen cloud of doom hangs over the central banker's little Theater of the Absurd; all their chest-pounding hubris and empty confidence is artifice, as phantom as the assets they claim will replace the phantom assets that have been destroyed by exposure to reality.
On their absurd little stage, they claim the Emperor's robes are thick and fine; and we laugh, bitterly, for these threadbare lies are all they have to "save" a parasitic, predatory, anti-democratic financial Status Quo.

YES, I AM - by Norman Grubb

YES, I AM - by Norman Grubb ;..  It is over forty years since I was led, I believe by the Holy Spirit, to write the first of this series of books on the one reality which has absorbed me all these years: Paul’s mystery, now made manifest, of "Christ in you, the hope of glory."
The first book, The Law of Faith, was followed by The Liberating Secret, The Deep Things of God, The Spontaneous You, God Unlimited, and Who Am I? I have had many evidences that the inner truth I’ve sought to share has, by the revelation of the Holy Spirit, become that same reality in many.
Like a fiddle with one string, I still write about this reality, which I boldly call Total Truth. My "textbook," my authority, has always been solely the Bible, and still is - the Bible inwardly illuminated and made the sole key to life by the Holy Spirit; just as Jesus said, "The words I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life."
I call this book YES, I AM because I would not write it if it were not, by great grace, a personally experienced reality to me, even as it is to many others of you. For as Jesus said, "We speak what we do know and testify to what we have seen."
