While both of China Hearsay‘s regular readers have expressed their sympathies and hope that Abrams will get back to regular posting soon, members of the Chinese Bacteria Association (CBA) are outraged.
“He should be the one apologizing!” said one bacterium lodged in the nasal passages of a bartender in Wudaokou, who gave a Skype interview to a correspondent from The Lancet. “How does he know it’s not influenza or a dislocated crotch or something? To immediately point the finger at bacteria is insulting and speciesist.”
Said Abrams in response, while blowing his nose: “Screw that guy.”
The China blogging community has been supportive of Abrams during the controversy. The editor-in-chief of the WhoTong blog, who goes by the name Li Kui, predicted in an interview with China Chemicals Daily that “Um, I guess he’ll be back once he feels better. I just hope all this ill will he’s generating doesn’t affect the rest of us.”
The executive committee of the CBA, which in publicity photos resembles a greenish sludge, said that they have not yet ruled out a boycott against China Hearsay. “We understand he has no advertisers, no members or revenue of any kind, and we aim to keep it that way.”
Said Abrams in response, while draining his sinuses: “Screw those guys.”
